Sam Miles

I went to Exeter because I loved it on my campus visit. I lived in Duryard Halls, and I’m still friends with the people I met on day 1! I studied Psychology but switched to English and I missed my English A-level. After working in London and Madrid I returned to Exeter in 2012 to study for an English MA, then I moved to London again for a PhD in Social Sciences. I am now a Reader (final stop on the lecturer before becoming a full Professor) in Medical Sociology at QMUL, where I teach medical students about public health, sexual health, and sociology in health. I also conduct qualitative research with LGBTQ people about health. I enjoy teaching students about complex topics like drugs and abortion: it’s so important that future doctors are judgment-free in their practice. I can advise on PhD research and teaching.
